How to perform the most common tasks

Setup

After your payments you will receive an email asking you to specify:

  • your login name (to use for both file access and emails, internal use only, not visible to third parts)
  • your own domain name you own
  • all the email alias you want to redirect to your mailbox

You will receive back an email confirming your account was setup with instruction on how to use it and your password to login in the system

 

Upload of files to put them online

You can upload file on the server using an ftp software
You can use any ftp software available for your platform
Files have to be correctly put on the server to allow it to read them with the correct read permission set to everyone if you want your pages will be available via the web

To connect to the server:

  • Server Name: domain.com (substitute with your domain name, as example: mybeautifulblackcat.com)
  • Name: login (example johnK)
  • FTP Password: your own password to login

 

 

Create a web site

When you connect via ftp to your account you will notice your folder has particular subfolders

Your website content will go inside:

/web/htdocs/com.yourwebsitename

as example if you have a website called mybeautifulblackcat.com (example)

 

you will se you have inside your main folder:

(example) /web/htdocs/com.mybeautifulblackcat

You will put the content of your site inside the (example) com.mybeautifulblackcat folder

the default served web page
the page the visitor of your site will see when they visit:
(example) www.mybeautifulblackcat.com

is the one you will name

'index.html'

 

Email

Mail is managed via a pop3 server . You do not have to connect using web to read your email. You can do it using your email client available on your platform

To read emails :

  • Server: domain.com (substitute with your domain name, as example: mybeautifulblackcat.com)
  • Name: login (example johnK)
  • Password: your own password to login
  • Server Type : POP3
  • Outcoming email server: Your own internet provider smtp server (Arpae doesn't offer outgoing mail server)
